The tournament that was held at Makhwelela Sports Ground saw four teams battling it out for the E5 000 worth sponsorship comprising cash, soccer balls and trophies. The first match pitting Mhlweni Black Aces and Mazanga FC, saw the latter proving too hot to handle for the former as they won the match by three goals to one, while Makhwelela and Mahewu match was decided in penalties after playing to a goal-less draw in full-time. Makhwelela won 6-5 to claim the E1 500 first prize. Makhwelela and Mazanga FC crossed swords in the finals and the two sides were separated by a solitary goal. Makhwelela won 1-0. In a post-match interview, one of the organisers, Makhekhe Mavuso expressed gratitude on the football lovers’ impressive attendance on the day. “At the end of the day, football was the winner as there was something to play for,” said Mavuso. He also thanked the sponsor for the tournament and requested that they do this more often as it had a huge impact for the youth in the area. The foundation’s Director, Strydom Mpanza said the weekend’s tournament was one of a series which the foundation has pledged to support, in order to lure the youth away from drug abuse. “Our main target is to keep the youth busy. We are very much happy the tournament went well,” he said. The event proved to be a spectacular one as over three hundred people converged at the sports field to cheer their teams. Strydom Mpanza Foundation as the sponsor, teamed up with Vela, a project currently being run by Swazi MTN where the company is registering all their subscribers.
