Times Of Swaziland: HISTORY IN THE MAKING, 12 REFEREES FOR FIFA HISTORY IN THE MAKING, 12 REFEREES FOR FIFA ================================================================================ BY NTOKOZO MAGONGO on 08/01/2020 23:30:00 MBABANE – The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has appointed 12 Eswatini referees for the year 2020. They include referees and assistant referees for both men and women. They are now part of the 2020 FIFA lists of referees and assistant referees. This comes as good news for the country as in the two previous years, only two referes were added to the FIFA panel and it is for the first time that such a number is registered under the FIFA panel. Growth Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe, said 2020 appointments reflected growth. “Four referees have been appointed, which will now make it possible for an appointment of two sets of referees from Eswatini to officiate in international matches. This is a historical and significant growth in refereeing for the country, which has in the current period been one of the strategic objectives of the EFA; to increase our referees officiating internationally,” he said. Radebe said in a similar wavelength, this also saw the appointment of a full set of women referees for the first time with the appointment of two women referees and the same number of assistant women referees, which signifies a steady growth in women refereeing. “EFA would like to express its congratulatory note to these referees; with the growth being a motivation to the rest of the referees and aspiring referees. The onus now remains with these appointed referees and assistant referees to work hard and perform well internationally to fortify this growth for the country,” he concluded.
