This was confirmed by the foundation Chairman, Scara Thindwa, yesterday in a statement which was copied to the Sports Desk. The games which are hosted annually between May and June have been postponed indefinitely. “The Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation is acutely aware of the dangers that the covid-19 pandemic poses on the lives of all, in particular the young participants (primary and high school learners and their educators and trainers) of our tournaments, our sponsors’ representatives, tournament administrators, all other key stakeholders and our own staff,” said Thindwa. “Therefore, to abide by the Eswatini Government’s call to strictly observe restrictions imposed on all in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation had to indefinitely postpone all its 2020 plans,” he said. He also highlighted that the foundation is also aware of the impact that the coronavirus outbreak prevention drive. “The foundation would therefore, like to express its utmost gratitude for our sponsors (Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation and KFC) for understanding the calamitous circumstances the nation and the whole world finds itself in due to the coronavirus and thus the need to postpone the 2020 tournaments and competitions,” he said. He then said government, sponsors, the custodians of football in the country, the education and training fraternity, key stakeholders and the Board of directors of the foundation will guide the foundation’s decision on the resumption of the tournaments as there is uncertainty on when the partial lockdown will end. He also said they would like to take this opportunity to appeal to all citizens to observe WHO precautionary measures. “We advise that people should stay at home, wash their hands with soap regularly or use hand sanitisers, wear face masks, seek medical attention where necessary and please practise social distancing until we have won the battle against the spread of this coronavirus. Let us flatten the coronavirus spread curve,” he added. He also said for more information regarding the tournaments he can be contacted at +2774 639 5602, or email: scara@oralebrokers.com.
