As the entire world commemorates this day, we have also grabbed the opportunity to interact with local athletes and sports people, who love animals. We are celebrating athletes who care for animals and share their daily lives with domestic animals such as pets. For our first edition, we get to know the take of renowned rugby coach Naomi du Pont, on animals as she shares her personal interest in pets. The Mbabane Cheetahs Rugby coach says her life revolves around her pets; dogs and cats. She cannot imagine life without her ‘babies’ whom she feels are also her protectors. Our question and answer session: Times: What is your favourite pet? Naomi: Dogs and Cats. Times: Name(s) of pet(s)? Naomi: Dogs; Kwaren, Teen, Barker and 3 Sox’s. Cats; Meeow, Albie and Tip. Times: What do your pets mean to you and your family? Naomi: They are my life, my protectors, my everything. They are loyal and loving. Times: What is the most special thing about your pets? Naomi: I can tell them anything. Times: What does Animal World Day mean to you? Naomi: Looking after your animals and loving them and also making people aware of their loyalty.
