‘SWAZI BOLT’ TO COMPETE IN SA

MBABANE – 2021 is a big year for athletes as it is an Olympic year.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games were postponed from last year July to August, to
July 24 until August 8, 2021. The country’s sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’
Matsenjwa is among the hopefuls who might qualify for the games.
Before sports were forced to shut down last year in March due to COVID-19,
Matsenjwa had already started attending some qualifiers.
He is currently in South Africa at the High Performance Centre (HPC) where he is
entering the second month from the five months that he will spend there.
He travelled with another sprinter in Phumlile Ndzinisa, who is also hoping to
qualify for the Olympics. Both athletes will be hoping to attend their third
Olympic Games since 2012 in London. They also competed in the Rio de Janeiro
2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) athletes will compete for the first
time in 2021 during the South Africa’s AGN Meeting billed for January 16, 2021
in Pretoria, South Africa. He confirmed yesterday that he would be part of the
competitors in the two weeks.

“We are back here in Pretoria where we are going to continue without a
training programme. I will be competing for the first this year during the AGN
set for the next two weeks. We arrived here on Saturday and Monday we will be
back in full training,’ he said.
Matsenjwa, who was back at home during the festive season, had no time to relax
as he was working hard training at the Mavuso Sports Centre with another South
African top athlete in Thando Roto.
