EZULWINI – A big catch!
Elite league rookies Tinyosi FC have added to the experienced Ndumiso
‘Sikhokho’ Shongwe from Manzini Sea Birds. The former Denver Sundowns
midfielder, who also plays in defensive positions, signed a two-year contract
with the Lobamba-based team. Sources close to the matter said he was signed in
the 11th hour on the day of the registration deadline. The deadline was last
Friday at 5pm for elite and National First Division League teams, while it was
extended for regional and women football clubs. “Our director Mbuso Dlamini
handles issue of new players, he is best positioned to comment,” said Tinyosi
FC’s PRO Thobile Dlamini yesterday. No immediate comment was obtained from the
team’s director, but the player was sought, he confirmed that he had left Sea
Birds for Tinyosi. “It’s true I am with Tinyosi and I’m happy to have
joined them,” he said.
He also did not deny that his commitment to the club was for two years. Shongwe
said the transfer happened last Friday after Sea Birds had released him. Shongwe
was a regular at Sea Birds last season since he rejoined the club from Sundowns.
It was Sea Birds who introduced him to elite level from the Hhohho Super League
side Buka United of Ezulwini. Comment was also sought from Shongwe’s new coach
Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane, but in vain. Nonetheless, the new signing, their
biggest in this initial window period, is said to have been inspired by the fact
that there was experience already in the side, while their MTN Premier League
start also had a hand. Tinyosi have four points in two matches and play Mbabane
Highlanders next when football resumes again. Government has currently suspended
sports as the country is in lockdown for two weeks since over a week ago due to
rising numbers of COVID-19 positive cases and deaths.
