Times Of Swaziland: EFA TO GET OVER E1M IN TV RIGHTS FROM CAF EFA TO GET OVER E1M IN TV RIGHTS FROM CAF ================================================================================ Sabelo Ndzinisa on 24/03/2021 08:07:00 MBABANE – The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) stands to benefit over E1 million (US$100 000) in television rights from the 2022 AFCON Qualifying matches. This has become standard payment procedure for most of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) member associations participating in such tournaments. The senior national football squad Sihlangu is involved in the qualifying matches for this tournament even though they no longer stand a mathematical chance of qualifying for the main tournament to be hosted in Cameroon in 2022. The good news though for the EFA is that CAF members enjoy a constitutional entitlement of US$100 000 at the end of the qualifying matches, whether broadcast live or not with the exception of some countries like South Africa, who enjoy different payment rates. entitled This means the non-broadcast of Sihlangu CAF matches in recent times will not have any bearing on the television rights the EFA will be entitled to get at the end of the games. “Television rights for CAF have been centralised such that the member associations except for the likes of South Africa, Egypt and Tunisia, get the same payment at the end of those tournaments. So, at the end of the day, the EFA will benefit from CAF in terms of television rights at the end of the tournament,” an EFA insider confided yesterday. EFA’s Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said television rights issues were best handled by CAF. “I am aware that the issue of television rights was decentralised but as for the payment aspect, only CAF can answer that because it is handled at executive level and administrative. We do not have the authority to discuss it as member associations,” Radebe said. It has been gathered that Sihlangu’s AFCON Qualifier against Guinea Bissau billed for Friday at the Mavuso Sports Centre will not be shown live on television but indications are that the next game against Senegal will be televised.
