EZULWINI – Professional golfer Meshack Zwane is the new Eswatini Royal
Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) Professional Golf Tournament champion.
Zwane displayed a stellar performance in the ESRIC Professionals golf tournament
to dethrone the longest reigning champion, Raymond Mathonsi. Zwane netted 146
points followed by Oscar Dube with 147 and third place winner Brandon Rennie,
who scored 149 points. The latter has managed to defend his championship five
consecutive times before giving in to Zwane. The two-day tournament which
started on Saturday and ended yesterday on the greens of the Royal Swazi Spa
featured 11 professional golfers and 23 amateurs who participated in the final
day of the competition.
With a sponsorship package of E60 000 to be played for in six months, the
professionals competed for E10 000 cash prize and the amateurs shared E2 000.
Half of the cash prizes were awarded to the champions and the balance was shared
by the other top scorers. Taking to the podium where he received his prize from
ESRIC General Manager Mandla Dlamini, Zwane thanked the Eswatini Professional
Golfers Association, the sponsor and the other golfers for their contribution to
the success of the competition.
“I believe next time it will be harder for me to get up here. I would like to
thank all the golfers for participating in the tournament because without them I
wouldn’t be a champion. Thank you to the sponsor and the committee for their
dedication and commitment,” said Zwane.

On behalf of the EPGA, golfer Sifiso Dhlamini encouraged other golfers, caddies
and lovers of the sport to share constructive ideas for the betterment of
Eswatini golf and appreciated the sponsor for giving the professional golfers
game time despite the prevalent circumstances resulting from the outbreak of
COVID-19. “Not all ideas come from the committee. We are servants of the
people and would like to have an inclusive sharing of ideas in a constructive
and respectable manner. Let us try and build this together and make it our
own,” said Dhlamini.
