Times Of Swaziland: WHAT DID I DO TO SWALLOWS? - MKHWELI WHAT DID I DO TO SWALLOWS? - MKHWELI ================================================================================ BY SANELE JELE on 18/10/2021 09:22:00 MBABANE – A month after being released by Mbabane Swallows, clubless left back Sanele Mkhweli is still wondering why he was put on the transfer list. The former Manzini Wanderers defender was released together with Simanga Shongwe, Nhlanhla ‘Jive’ Nkosi and Allen Mabuza. “The coach was present when I was notified that I’m being released, he said the decision was not taken on a personal capacity but the team was cutting down the squad,” Mkhweli responded to the question on whether the coach explained to him before they were released. He said what baffled him was that Swallows had two left backs. “It was really confusing because the team had two left backs but when they decided to chop down they thought of me, leaving one left back which is impossible to play a season with only one left back,” he further explained. He said he later heard that there were some few left backs who they were trying to recruit. released Asked if he saw it coming that he would be released he said; “About being released, yes it crossed my mind when the past season was about to be over. If you remember very well, the last 10 games I didn’t play much, I got demoted to the bench with unclear reasons but I had to take it because every player gets benched,” he said. Pressed further if he engaged the coach on why he was being benched, he said; “No, it was only a silent decision which surprised me as I felt the coach would let me know where I lacked and where I should have improved in my game. I never questioned the coach’s decision,” he said. He also clarified that he was not released because of being ill-discipline. “I do not remember any scenario where I was called for discipline hearing. I had a good relationship with the coach you know,” he said. He said he was still wondering what he did, for Swallows to sacrifice him like that. Effort to get a comment from Swallows Head coach Christopher Ennin were futile as he promised to get back to the Sports Desk but never did. He was questioned if he engaged the players before releasing them.
