Times Of Swaziland: TIMOTHY FOR COSAFA EXEC ELECTIONS TIMOTHY FOR COSAFA EXEC ELECTIONS ================================================================================ BY NTOKOZO MAGONGO on 30/11/2021 08:55:00 MBABANE – Football administrator Timothy Shongwe is the only liSwati who will contest in the forthcoming COSAFA Executive Committee elections. The Council of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) will go to polls on December 19, in the country. Shongwe, who is currently serving as the Chairman of the COSAFA Organising Committee, is going for the membership post. The Elective Annual General Assembly would to be staged the day after the final of the COSAFA Men’s Under-20 Championship that will be held in the country from December 10-18. According to the cosafa.com, the member associations will vote for a new president and executive committee. Shongwe is among the seven nominees for the membership and only five will be elected for the posts. Some of the nominees are Ranga Haikali from Namibia, P Marshlow Motlogelwa from Botswana, Andrew Kamanga and Andrew Kamanga both from Zambia and Solondranja Mahatovo from Madagascar. There are two candidates who will contest for the Presidency position and these are Angola Football Federation President, Artur de Almeida Silva and South Africa Football Association (SAFA) President Dr. Danny Jordaan. Current COSAFA President Dr Phillip Chiyangwa has decided not to stand for a second term despite a successful five years at the helm of the regional body, according to the cosafa.com. Comoros Football Federation President Said Ali Said Athouman will stand unopposed for the position of Vice-President. There are seven candidates for five positions as ordinary members on the Executive Committee, which as per COSAFA regulations must include at least one woman. Three women have thrown their hat in the ring, namely Ria Ledwaba (South Africa), Brenda Kunda (Zambia) and Solondranja Mahatovo (Madagascar), at least one of whom must be elected,” reads a statement from cosafa.com.
