These are MTN Khemani’s Muzi Shabangu and Kwanele Jele from Newcom Wheels, who will today leave the country to a race in South Africa. This was disclosed by Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) Secretary Mxolisi Shongwe yesterday. “Muzi and Kwanele are travelling tomorrow (today) to compete in Gauteng at the Rooi Winter Challenge,” said Shongwe. He said it was a 92-kilometre road race.“This forms part of the cyclists’ preparation for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham,” he added. The two cyclists have been selected among a team of 12 athletes for the eagerly-awaited Commonwealth Games. The Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, are an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that is scheduled to be held in Birmingham, England from July 28 to August 8 this year. Jele was sent to Cape Town for a one-month long training early this year. Muzi, on the other hand, has been active in local and international races. Games Meanwhile, other athletes who make the list of Commonwealth Games qualifiers are sprint sensations Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, Bongiwe Mahlalela and ace high jumper, Erikah Seyama. Swimmers in Hayley Hoy and Simanga Dlamini will also look to leave a mark in the pool. Under boxing, Thabiso Dlamini and Zweli Dlamini will be in the spotlight inside the ring.
