MBABANE – CAF has appointed four Ghanaian referees for the Africa Cup of
Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Cape Verde later next month.
CAF is the Confederation of African Football. This will be Dominic Kunene’s
troops’ first game of the new year but third in the qualifying campaign.
Despite an early correspondence suggesting that there was no venue in Cape Verde
meeting the CAF standard, it was confirmed that the home country would host the
game on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Cidade da Praia Santiago Estadio Nacianal.
Referee
According to a correspondence from the Ghana Football Association, Charles Bulu
will be the centre referee and he will be assisted by fellow Ghanaian countryman
in Paul Kodzo and Tijani Mohammed. Abdul Latif Qadari will be the fourth
official. Gregorio Badupa from Guinea Bissau will be the match commissioner. The
Referee Assessor was identified as Lemghaifry Bouchaab from Mauritania.
Meanwhile, most people will remember Bulu without their memories being jogged.
The latter collapsed while officiating a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)
qualifying match between Ivory Coast and Ethiopia on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
Bulu, who has a FIFA badge, was stretchered off the field in the 80th minute
after he lost consciousness. It was alleged that he collapsed due to the very
hot weather in Abidjan.
The Ivorians were leading 3-1 in the six encounter before the match ended
abruptly following the incident. The fourth official expected to replace Bulu
was an Ivorian and could not take over due to a conflict of interest. As a
result, the match had to be called off with 10 minutes left to be played.
Sihlangu, on the other hand, are yet to confirm the venue for the return match
against Cape Verde, which will be played a few days later.
