Times Of Swaziland: ‘SAVIOLA’ MARCH’S FINEST STAR ‘SAVIOLA’ MARCH’S FINEST STAR ================================================================================ Nimrod Hlophe on 20/04/2024 08:39:00 MBABANE – Young Buffaloes’ striker Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze has become the seventh contender for the 2024/25 MTN Premier League Player of the Season. This came after Gamedze was named March’s finest player at the Player of the Month Award Ceremony held at Mahlalekhukhwini House on Thursday. This accolade positions Gamedze as a contender for the E15 000 Player of the Season incentive. ‘Saviola’ netted two goals last month in the league matches played. He scored once in their 2-0 victory over Ezulwini and also came off the bench to score in the 87th minute, securing a narrow win against Denver Sundowns. “I think what helped me win this award was taking responsibility on the field since we now have a youthful squad. Most of our senior players have taken a back seat, and I’m among the few senior players remaining who must lead by example,” Saviola said. The national team marksman expressed his desire to increase his goal tally in an effort to catch up with the leading top goalscorer, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa. “There is still time to catch up, but the challenge lies in the remaining games. The upcoming fixtures are tough and you can’t confidently say you will score more in each game, but you have to appreciate what you get on that specific day. So, we shall see how many goals one would have netted when the season comes to an end,” he added. Clash The army side is set to clash with Mbabane Highlanders today and will then face Manzini Wanderers in the next fixture. They will confront Royal Leopard in week 24, then Ezulwini United and conclude the season against log leaders Mbabane Swallows. Gamedze promised that they would continue to play with commitment in the remaining five games, as the league title is still within their reach. They are currently fourth; two points shy of the summit, and tied with security forces rivals Royal Leopard and Green Mamba at 38 points. Meanwhile, Ludzeludze Killers’ striker Mvuselelo Mthethwa was crowned the National First Division (NFD) best player. The 20-year-old currently has eight goals for his team and mentioned that his primary goal was to help the team ascend to the top-tier league.
