This is the last lap of the E19.5 million three-year sponsorship deal that MTN and PLE signed back in 2022. This was disclosed by MTN Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wandile Mtshali during the launch of the 2024/25 MTN Premier League campaign, which was held at the Mahlalekhukhwini House, in Ezulwini Yesterday. “As MTN, we are committed to provide another sponsorship of E6.5 million. This is an amount that we have all agreed to spend this season for all the games that will take place. We are hoping that all these resources will go into each and every area of football in the highly-anticipated new season,” Mtshali said. Mtshali went on to highlight that they were looking forward to working hand-in-hand with the leadership of the PLE to accommodate them as MTN in making sure that this season is a success. “We will play our part in supporting the PLE in every way and with all the discussions that we have had prior to this launch, we discussed that we should start developing the skills around the leadership of the different teams, because with good leadership, we will have good teams,” he added. Supporters He further invited all supporters to come in their numbers in the grand opening of the new season to be held tomorrow, at Mavuso Sports Centre. “We would like to plead with all football enthusiasts to come and fill up the stadium as they will be a lot of activities that will be happening, including some goodies that will be given out to them,” he said. Meanwhile, Sicelo Mkhonta, who spoke on behalf of PLE Chairperson Polycarp Dlamini said they were excited even this year to continue with the sponsorship from MTN. “We promise to work together with MTN in the new season. We will show that we understand how business works. When we talk of people, we talk of money. We are happy about the different products that we got from MTN,” Mkhonta said. “In the recently ended PLE 8Bet Trade Fair Cup, we saw new talents and players that were unveiled. Making such preseason tournaments is a way of showing MTN the new talent and level of competition the teams are bringing in the new season,” he added. He also disclosed that they appreciate all the teams for introducing new players as that shows commitment. “We will continue to contribute positively to MTN. In last week’s tournament, we decided that all the money that was supposed to be sent to the teams we shall send it through mobile money, to show that as MTN, we are here to give back support,” Mkhonta highlighted. Mkhonta urged all supporters to continue supporting local football. He revealed that last year, MTN was not happy with the numbers and having more numbers this season is their main goal so that they can be able to negotiate another sponsorship in the upcoming years.
