News about Matsenjwa’s demise started spreading like wildfire, early yesterday. It could not be immediately ascertained what led to the sudden death of the vibrant spokesperson, who was now based in South Africa. Close relatives shared that he was recently in the country to attend a relative’s funeral and he never reported any sickness. Died “We were dismayed when we got a call from his partner in South Africa that he died in his sleep, this morning,” said a relative, who cannot be named since he is not the family’s official spokesperson. Matsenjwa was known for his vivaciousness in studio whenever he represented Sundowns during the popular Sports Show Programme. He will be remembered for coining the ‘kelwane’ tag directed at Mbabane Swallows. ‘Kelwane’ is a siswati term for the naked neck breed of chicken that is naturally devoid of feathers on its neck and vent. Debates He had robust debates with the late Sibusiso Manana of Swallows on the Sports Show, several years ago. Matsenjwa had stepped away from the spotlight, before he met his untimely death. He left for South Africa to concentrate on his work, more than four years ago. Sundowns, through their official Facebook page, reacted to the unfortunate developments. Passion “Former PRO Muzi Matsenjwa, who was well known in the Kappa Kappa boys and served the team with love and passion, is late. His demise has left the Kappa family shocked and heartbroken. “Condolences go to the Matsenjwa family, his children, football supporters and friends. May the Lord grant them strength through these difficult times,” reads the statement from Sundowns. Sundowns assured that more details on burial logistics will be communicated with football lovers once his family has met and decided on the funeral date. His death comes less than two weeks after the demise of legendary golfer Evart Madlopha, who was laid to rest this past weekend.
