MBABANE – The Sihlangu delegation that journeyed to Botswana is set to receive
nearly E100 000 in match bonuses.
According to an impeccable source, the match bonuses for Sihlangu players remain
unchanged. For a draw, each player/official is entitled to E1 500, while a
victory secures them E3 000.
The source further indicated that these bonuses also extend to the technical
bench and officials who are part of the delegation, ensuring they receive
rewards whenever the national team win or draw.  Sihlangu dispatched a
delegation of 30 to Botswana for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship
(CHAN) first leg.
The match took place at Obed Ithani Stadium, where Sihlangu secured a convincing
3-0 victory over Zimbabwe, courtesy of goals from Sifiso Matse and a brace from
Junior Magagula, this past Sunday. A calculation of 30 individuals multiplied by
E3 000 per official means that the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) will
allocate E90 000 in match winning bonuses.
The last time the EFA disbursed match bonuses was on October 11, when all
members of the delegation received E1500 for their draw against Mozambique in
the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers. The last winning bonuses for the
national team were awarded on March 20, 2024 (223 days ago), following a 3-0
triumph over Somalia in the AFCON preliminary qualifiers.
If Sihlangu secure another victory in the second leg of the CHAN qualifiers,
this Saturday; the entire delegation is entitled to the same E3 000 match
winning bonuses.  The game is tentatively set for Mbombela Stadium at 6pm,
subject to confirmation. Speaking to one of the players who travelled with the
team to Botswana, and wished to remain anonymous, he stated: “This serves as a
tremendous motivation for the players, and we truly appreciate that we are
entitled to match bonuses in the event of a win or draw. We are optimistic about
securing victory in the second leg, especially as it is a home game for us.”
The bonuses come in handy for Eswatini players who are not remunerated according
to international standards. Reports suggest that some players are paid as low as
E1 500 per month, at their respective clubs.EFA Marketing and Communications
Officer Muzi Radebe stated: “Financial matters are administrative in nature
and are addressed during the ordinary general assembly (OGA).”
