Times Of Swaziland: SIHLANGU COACH ACCURATELY FORECASTS DERBY OUTCOME SIHLANGU COACH ACCURATELY FORECASTS DERBY OUTCOME ================================================================================ Ntombikayise Gwebu on 13/11/2024 13:31:00 MANZINI – The Mbabane derby delivered a spectacle that will be etched in the memories of fans and players alike. Over 5 000 eager spectators, including national team Head Coach Zdravko Logarusic gathered at the rain-soaked Mavuso Sports Centre to witness a fierce clash between long-time rivals Mbabane Swallows and Mbabane Highlanders, three days ago. The stakes were high, and the atmosphere was electric, promising a showcase of the nation’s finest talent. Logarusic watched the derby for the first time since arriving locally. As the match unfolded, it became a thrilling exhibition of skill and determination. Swallows emerged victorious, claiming the scalp of their rivals with a commanding 2-0 win that propelled them to the top of the MTN Premier League standings. Two unanswered goals from the dynamic duo of Mancoba ‘Nciba’ Vilakati and Siyabonga ‘Gusheshe’ Zwane sealed the win, leaving Highlanders grappling with missed opportunities and frustration. After the final whistle, Logarusic shared his impressions, reflecting on the intensity of the match. “It was a very interesting game, and as I predicted, the team that scored first would emerge victorious. Brilliance “Swallows showcased more individual quality and brilliance from key players. “They capitalised on their chances. Meanwhile Highlanders had their fair share of chances but if you do not score, the only result expected is either a draw or lose,” he remarked. The Croatian coach was particularly struck by the depth of talent on display. “This country is rich in talent. Every time I watch a game, I discover someone new. There are many exceptional players, making it challenging to make fair selections for the national squad,” he acknowledged. With Sihlangu’s upcoming matches on the horizon, Logarusic explained his rationale behind calling up 22 players to the training camp. “I need two teams to properly prepare for our upcoming fixtures, which is why I opted for two goalkeepers and 20 outfield players. “We will have training sessions from Monday and from this group, only 20 will travel to Mbombela. “It’s a tough decision, and I dislike the moments when I have to make cuts,” he confessed. Sihlangu face Guinea-Bissau at Mbombela Stadium on Friday before travelling to Mali, a few days later. This marks the continuation of their TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers journey. Sihlangu are already out, with two games to spare. The national side, on the other hand, were due to have a media day at Mavuso Sports Centre, yesterday, but it was called off at the eleventh hour due to inclement weather.
