Over 80 golfers are expected to register, surpassing last year’s turnout of 78. The registration fee was set at E330 per golfer. Mbabane Golf Club Captain Gideon Mhlongo acknowledged that the SBS has been a loyal sponsor of the tournament throughout its entire 10-year history. Mhlongo expressed gratitude for SBS’s unwavering support and emphasised the importance of celebrating this decade-long partnership. “We are grateful to SBS for their consistent support over the past 10 years. This partnership is invaluable, and we hope it lasts for many more years to come,” he said. He assured that preparations are progressing well, with final details to be announced soon. Mhlongo also encouraged early registration, emphasising that participation is limited to members of the Mbabane Golf Club. The defending champion, 16-year-old Mongiwethu Masuku, is expected to face tough competition from seasoned golfers such as Thabiso Gama, Rasheed Mohammed, Siboniso Simelane, Tebogo Mohapeloe, Mongi ‘Tsatsa’ Dlamini, Sandile Chonco, Valentine Maziya, Cosmo ‘Wall of Death’ Mthethwa and Vusi H. Dlamini, among others. Surprising Interestingly, Masuku has claimed the coveted trophy for the past two years, surprising the Mbabane Golf Club community. Last year, SBS Managing Director Mbali Sibanyoni highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting golf locally. Over the years, she has consistently advocated for increased inclusion of female and junior golfers. She also encouraged the club to support SBS in return by utilising its financial services and newly-launched digital platforms. The stage is set for an exciting championship, with golfers and sponsors alike anticipating a memorable event.
