MBABANE – As Moneni Pirates strive to keep pace with the top spot, they find
themselves haunted by a two-year jinx against Mbabane Highlanders. The last time
Pirates defeated the rejuvenated city giants was back in October 2022. Desperate
for maximum points, the Buccaneers of Moneni aim to keep their destiny in their
own hands as they chase the top position.
Conversely, Inkunzi’ emnyama are looking to steer clear of the relegation zone
and finish the season respectably.
Malawi-born coach Meck Mwase, who made his name reviving the Highlanders during
their years in the lower division, will be eager to start his duties with a win.
Historically, they have had the upper hand against Pirates, dominating most
encounters that have often been spiced with tempers and flare. As the ‘Sea
Robbers’ of Moneni welcome back former Highlanders star Lindani ‘Rio’
Matsenjwa from suspension, they will be without midfield maestro Phumlani
‘Bin’ Shongwe, who is also serving a suspension.

However, Coach Caleb ‘No-Nonsense’ Ngwenya boasts a rich squad, featuring
left-back Richard Ofosu, striker Senanelo Nkambule and winger Bi Zahi Herve, who
are all poised to help the team bounce back from their previous league game,
where they suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Royal Leopard. On the other hand,
Mwase will look to Captain Thabo Langa, Siyabonga Mkhonto and Fabrice Mopina for
a debut win. Highlanders secured a 3-0 victory against Rangers in their last
outing.
