The Moneni Buccaneers lost the game 0-1 which saw the Pigg’s Peak based outfit clinch the second spot which carries a prize cheque of E300 000. This comes after two of their fans invaded the field of play to grab a juice bottle belonging to Malanti Chiefs goalkeeper Njabuliso Simelane. The incident happened on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium in the second half of the match. According to article 7(a) of the Rules and Regulations of the 2012/ 13 MTN Premier League, invading the pitch during a game by a supporter(s), a marshal(s), or supporters(s) or spectator(s) (unless authorised by the referee) in celebration of a goal(s) – a team will face a summary fine of E15 000 by the PLS. PLS CEO Zwelonke ‘Sport’ Dlamini said the team will not escape scot-free as this happened in front of everyone. He said it was not a good thing to happen in football and they were totally against such incidents. He said this can even put the players’ safety at risk. Moneni Pirates fans believed that there was something that was stopping them from scoring goals and it was within the goalpost. The first fan wrestled with Simelane over the juice bottle and failed while the second fan was able to take away the juice bottle. Malanti Chiefs won the match 1-0 to finish second on the log while Pirates only needed a win or a daw to take the second spot.
