MBABANE – Initiators of the 16-team proposal Manzini Regional Football
Association (MRFA) are not ready to withdraw the resolution taken by the FA
General Assembly in June.
MRFA Chairman Phumuza Ntshangase yesterday said they were not moving an inch
ahead of tonight’s Special General Assembly over the resolution.
“For us it’s no longer a proposal but a resolution which we expect to be
implemented as it was recognised by the highest decision-making body in our
football,” he said, when asked what their reaction was to the Special General
Assembly sanctioned by the FA.
He said they were not expecting anything else other than implementation of the
resolution to have elite and first division league teams increased from 12 to
16.
“What can happen if there’s a problem with implementation is for us to be
given the platform to assist as to how we think this can be done. When we get
that platform then we’ll help in implementing the resolution,” Ntshangase
explained.
Rumours
Asked about the rumours that the resolution could be set aside this afternoon,
he said it could happen but only because this was Swaziland.
“It would come as a shock to us if the resolution, made by the FA General
Assembly, would be set aside but we can’t rule it out and we’d almost be
powerless as the resolution was with the FA now,” he said.
Meanwhile, PLS CEO Nqobile Magagula could not be reached for comment as her
cellphone rang unanswered. The last attempt was made at 6.30pm.
However, it is no secret that the PLS is opposed to this resolution and will
push for it to be thrown out today.
The organisation argued that the proposal was unconstitutionally presented
during the FA AGM about two months ago, and they were not going to comply with
an illegitimate decision.
