PUPILS SENT HOME FOR  LAUGHING AT ASSEMBLY

SITEKI – Dozens of Form IV pupils at Mhlume High School were sent home
yesterday for reportedly giggling during morning prayer.
The school’s administration said the manner in which the pupils behaved during
the morning prayer was unacceptable hence it was decided that they should be
sent  home to ‘call their parents’.
“We have a problem of indiscipline among pupils in the school; especially the
Form IV class. The situation is getting out of hand hence we asked them to go
home and call their parents,” said the Head teacher, Siphosini Mazibuko. He
clarified that the pupils had not been expelled, stating that the school
administration was aware of the rules governing schools in the country, which
prohibits head teachers from sending pupils home, even if those pupils owe
school fees.
“There are other disciplinary issues that we need to discuss with the parents.
There are pending cases of dagga possession which we are still investigating.
The pupils had been warned many times about their behaviour but they wouldn’t
listen,” he added.
Explaining what transpired during the morning prayer, Mazibuko said his deputy
was conducting the morning prayer when some Form IV pupils made a ‘funny
noise’ before the whole group of Form IVs laughed.
He did not explain the funny noise which the pupils allegedly made, only stating
that morning prayers were very important and that pupils were not expected to
misbehave during assembly.
However, some pupils disputed that they made a funny noise during the prayer
meeting but confirmed that they giggled.
