POPULAR PANEL BEATER’S  FINGERPRINTS NOT DETECTED

PIGG’S PEAK – A popular panel beater, Abdulah ‘Dulafatsi’ Dlamini, fears
he may not vote this year.
A fingerprints scanner used by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC)
thjeir time in Pigg’s Peak town centre has not been able to detect Dlamini’s
fingerprints.
Fingerprint scanning is crucial when registering to vote but for some people
like Dlamini, who spend most of their time doing manual work, getting their
fingerprints scanned is said to be an impossible task.
Dlamini said he tried to register at least three times since the exercise
started.
He said officials told him his type of work may be contributing to this.
Dlamini said officials advised him that his hands would need to be cleaned
thoroughly to remove any particles which were making it difficult for the
scanner to read his fingerprints.
He also alleged he was advised to take at least four days off from work as part
of the process to keep his fingers free from unwanted substances.
He said he was still willing to go back for the fourth time but feared he would
be rejected again.
Though he said he was advised to take a break from work, Dlamini said doing so
would result in him not getting paid.
“If I stay away from work, I may lose out on my earnings,” he said.
He conceded that his type of work contributed to the problem but said he had no
other means of earning an income.
