Times Of Swaziland: ’DOWNS REVERT TO DENVER SUNDOWNS ’DOWNS REVERT TO DENVER SUNDOWNS ================================================================================ BY ASHMOND NZIMA, NTOKOZO MAGONGO on 05/08/2019 23:32:00 MBABANE – Manzini Sundowns have finally been granted their wish of reverting to their old name. They are officially Denver Sundowns. This follows a successful proposal that had been forwarded to the Premier League of Eswatini in July 2017. Denver are said to be a name synonymous with the Sundowns family history, tradition and future aspirations. PLE CEO Simanga Nhleko confirmed the name-change after his office’s General Assembly at Sigwaca House in Mbabane on Sunday. Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa celebrated the name-change when sought for comment. “The team will be trading as Denver Sundowns in the 2019/20 season and beyond. “This is a milestone; a project the chairman has been working on in the past years at least. Denver Sundowns is synonymous with the rich history and tradition of the club. It opens yet another fresh page in the 30-year history of the team,” he said. The team used to be known as Denver Sundowns until 2007. “Legends and the old school of supporters have been at a crossroads since 2007 when the name was changed to Manzini Sundowns. “This move will surely blend the new crop of supporters and players with the old. We’re one big family yet again,” he said. While trading under the Denver banner, Sundowns used to sweep the boards. Also adopting a new name are Mhlume Peacemakers, who competed under the Matsapha banner last season. Peacemakers bought Matsapha United’s status before the start of the 2018/19 season, but could not use the name until last Sunday’s Annual General Meeting. The new names of the teams are already appearing in the fixture list for the new season, which gets underway next weekend.
