MBABANE – The Eswatini Karate Federation (EKF) will hold a joint training for
all their associations on Saturday.
This was revealed by EKF Secretary General (SG) Victor Gwebu. He said this was
part of their plans to send awareness with their members after the COVID-19
pandemic halted most of their activities. “The joint training and awareness
will begin with a walk from Jubilee Park in Manzini to the Mavuso Sports Centre
starting at 9am,” Gwebu said. He said the training would involve all the
different karate styles which include Oyama, Ashihara, Shin-Kykoshin, Sosai,
Japan Karate Association (JKA) and Kyokushin. “We will give each association
30 minutes to show us what they have, after a long lay-off due to the COVID-19
pandemic,” he said.
He also said members of the public that were interested in the sport were
invited to come to Mavuso to join in the training. Gwebu said the joint
awareness was a plan to attract more women into the sport, which teaches
self-defence and discipline. “By self-defence I am not saying that we teach
them to beat their boyfriends or husbands, but we teach them how to protect
themselves in challenging situations,” he said. He further said that the
federation was now part of Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association
(EOCGA) and this would open doors for the artists to perform on international
stages.
