STOP USING MUTI  IN FOOTBALL – PM

EZULWINI – Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini has discouraged the use of
muti in local football activities.
Dlamini said it was imperative that government met with club managers and inform
them that such antics should be stopped immediately in order for the game to
remain clean and professional.
Speaking during the breakfast meeting between himself and the Swaziland Editors
Forum yesterday morning, Dlamini said sports should be entirely for competition
and entertainment.
“These people should stop believing in muti and I hope that the minister of
Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs will ensure that this is drummed in for all to
understand,” he said.
The premier said football teams needed to rely on other components of the game
such as ensuring that the players were fit and make strategies and tactics to
ensure that they won games through hard and well deserved work.
The PM was responding to a question posed by Swazi News Editor Phephisa Khoza
who asked if it was safe for people to bring their children to soccer matches as
they could catch (kuhabula) evil spirits.
“Is it just the children who would be affected or adults too?” wondered
Dlamini.
He said he had heard many names being used in reference of muti such as
‘insurance’ and ‘premium’. “They never call it muti, but it should
stop,” said Dlamini.
