SWAYOCO leaders in six-hour interrogation
MBABANE – Two leaders of the banned Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO) were on Wednesday hauled-in for a six-hour interrogation by the police.
SWAYOCO president Wandile Dludlu and national organiser Themba Mabuza were fetched from their respective homes and taken to the police headquarters where they were allegedly given the third degree for comments they made during the funeral of dead suspect bomber Musa ‘MJ’ Dlamini.
Dludlu confirmed the interrogation but refused to comment any further because he thought that could encourage the police to conduct more interrogations on them.
"The things and questions that characterised the interrogations were of a serious nature and the police are hell bent on making our lives as difficult as possible," Dludlu said.
In a correspondence sent to this newspaper, SWAYOCO deputy president Phinda Mndzebele alleged that police had received orders from above "to attack all members of PUDEMO and SWAYOCO".
"SWAYOCO continues to be and shall never be shaken by these acts of cowardice. We remain firmly rooted in our course of playing a significant role in the liberation of our country. Whatever tactics the armed forces will use will not change us because there is light at the end of the tunnel," Mndzebele said.
Police Public Relations Officer Superintendent Vusi Masuku confirmed that the two SWAYOCO leaders were questioned by the police on separate intervals.
"Professionally, I however can’t disclose details of the interrogation as that information is private and confidential," Masuku said.
Police questioning of the SWAYOCO duo comes a couple of days after PUDEMO Secretary General Sphasha Dlamini was also summoned for interrogation.
Both SWAYOCO and PUDEMO are amongst the four organisations that were initially banned for life from operating in the country after Premier Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini had categorised them as terrorist entities.
