WHERE ARE WHITE SWAZIS?
Editor,
Fellow readers, I’m a permanent and rooted young Swazi born in the north-east of the Hhohho region of this country. Everywhere I go outside the borders of this country I don’t mind being referred to as a Swazi. I’m also privileged to belong to this country which is under the leader of His Majesty King Mswati III, the Ingwenyama of the Kingdom of Swaziland. However, having said that, I am particularly bothered by the absence or silence demonstrated by our fellow white Swazis whom some of them were granted their citizenship by this government.
It is no doubt that by population the majority of black Swazis outnumber our white fellow Swazis but even then they are not interested in any way to participate in activities or matter affecting this beautiful kingdom. I will make an example of national events that usually take place in this country, the Reed Dance, Incwala, buganu festivals and even in the socio-economic and political matters affecting this country.
I am not xenophobic or racist here but we are all aware that we still do have white Swazis who are legally in possession of identity documents but they are nowhere to be seen where there is a duty call for all Swazis. This minority community, however, is able to organise their own activities at their own convenience and whenever it suits them because they have the financial muscles to fund such activities. Sometimes I find it very strange that while it is the duty of government to look after the poor in partnership with other organisations that were formed by black Swazis, well known white millionaire Swazis just don’t care.
Maybe some of them will give an excuse that they employed many Swazis but that is not enough as their absence can easily be interpreted as racial segregation that they do not want to be part of the majority of Swazis in any activity.
I will also make an example of sport, where you hardly see white Swazis in our stadiums but I don’t know if they like soccer or not. Also you can’t find white Swazis playing netball with our sisters.
In religion they are hardly seen where the masses gather in prayer and even their pastors are not visible to share the Word of God with fellow black Swazis. This country belongs to all of us as we are one nation whether black or white. This division needs to be addressed by authorities of this country. I have also noted that even if the King calls the nation to gather at the Royal Kraal, you hardly see white Swazis in attendance and this is wrong. It is no doubt that most families of the white community are filthy rich and guess why black Swazis support them because as far as I know, they (black Swazis) are not kind people. I just want to say that I love our fellow white Swazis but they must also demonstrate that they appreciate being called Swazis by involving themselves in all things that the masses of this country are collectively doing.
Concerned, The Rock.
