BE TOLERANT AND NOT JUDGEMENTAL

Sir,

The comments from your readers on the story about one Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule  and his anti-LGBT stance that you published on Wednesday February 1, 2017 left me, and I’m certain many others, hurting the whole day over how humanity continues to be its own enemy.
I’m a parent, and head of a Christian family of four.

One of my daughters (26) has always shown signs of being different from when she was as little as five.
The family accepted her, and my late mother who was 70 at the time, said people like her have always been around since time immemorial.

My daughter, who just finished her Medicine studies, is a devout and God-fearing Christian, and I will never forsake her over her different biological make-up and/or sexual preferences, despite the demonisation and judgemental messages that were uttered by the bishop and his Grace Bible Church nemesis in Soweto.

Human sexuality is a complex subject and (mis)using religion and the Bible in that matter, to advance discrimination and hate makes a mockery of our values as Christians.

Jesus

Did Jesus not teach us about ‘love’, ‘guarding against being earthly judges’, ‘tolerance and acceptance’ and ‘avoiding Phariseesm’?
Anyway, before we rush to judge others, we must consider that perhaps one of our own beloved family members; it could be your son, daughter, brother, sister, cousin, mind you, friends, colleagues, school mates, teachers, leaders, neighbours, is different from us sexually, but very much like us in aspirations, intellect, competence, if not even better.

Should schools give pupils money as an incentive for not getting pregnant?
