RESPONSE TO JOUBERT LETTER

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

I would like to take this opportunity to respond to the unfortunate chain of events that were experienced by Ernie Joubert, giving rise to our beloved Swaziland falling to the depths of the ‘worst African country’ in his humble but grossly inadequate opinion.

He claims to have worked all over Africa and never experienced this type of connectivity issues. In no way am I condoning what took place but for any African traveller to think that connectivity is great in all countries, is - without exaggerating - telling a very big white lie.

What I would like to know is what was the love affair with this particular internet café that - as a well-travelled journalist, who obviously has a GPS - he could not muster the courage to venture into the wilds of Mbabane and find another place that could do the upload for him. My second point is that I have been in Swaziland my whole life, and yes I have had issues with SPTC like any citizen has, but the type of horror scenario that befell this poor man, I have never experienced. SPTC has always strived to give the best possible service to its customers while boxing from a very weak position, considering how many of us use their services. I would like to congratulate SPTC on their seismic attitude change towards service delivery and customer interaction in the last few years.

I feel that the negative space that Ernie was in gave rise to this boxing match against our country and SPTC. I would gladly host him and take him on a tour of our country and at the end of that tour sit with him at an internet café and upload his memories to his boss.
Lastly, Ernie, sorry about what you experienced but that is not the Swaziland I live in. Call me.

George Falcomer
