FAREWELL LETTER TO MY TEEN-SELF

Sir,

I discern that profound in your heart, you are throbbing, deplorable, breaking down because you find it very inflexible to adapt to the alteration that will be taking place in six months time.

It’s explicable though, you have been a preeminent friend of a stage by the name ‘teen’ and you have been glued to her for seven years, which is a very long time.

Not so long ago you were euphoric when you turned 16, you saw yourself as something else, your dreams became the reflection of what you saw in you. That is the year that molded you into what you are today, that is the year that gifted you with self-love, independence and most of all, a big brother who has disciplined you, even though you were stubborn. You have been doing so well with your brother and your best friend ‘teen’, it’s a very upright thing that you made them to be part of your life.

I know you are petrified of the age, it feels so many poles apart, maybe it’s because the ‘20’ no longer has ‘teen’ at the end of it, you wish it would be ‘twentyteen’, just to feel young and be a teenager forever. I know from the bottom of my heart that you are worried about your teen clothes. You can still wear the stuff, it’s not like you are middle-aged, and you can still wear your cute mini shorts. The pronunciation of your age makes you feel like you are old.

You have done good for yourself though, you found your passion when you were young, at the age of 18 and you did something about it and managed to get what you wanted independently. That is one of the things I love about you, when you see something, you do something about it instantly. You always want things to be done in your own way first, more like trying things out before you ask for anyone’s assistance.

You are in a place where most of your age mates fight to be, not because you are insolent or auspicious but because you are a go-getter and you always want societies to bend their rules for you, which is admirable. I am happy that your big brother has got nothing to do with that attitude of yours, it’s just within you and hopefully he is proud of you.

You are one of the top robust young girls I have ever met in my life time, you can be emotionally hurt by humans but you never find it hard to forgive, to wear a smile on your face, hide all the worries behind it and offer love to all. Don’t be startled by the age, don’t look back at your mistakes, focus and thrive to achieve all your dreams.

Make sure you don’t leave the two imperative people behind throughout this voyage, make sure you go all-out to be the queen of inspiration and they will be honored to be the top royals of motivation.
