IDENTIFYING BEAST FROM THE ABYSS

Sir,

In Revelation 11, God says: “And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth,” (Revelation 11:3). The passage goes on to explain; “These are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands standing before the God of the earth.”

A lamp is a symbol of the word of God; “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path,” (Psalms 119:105).
When Zechariah saw the two olive trees in a vision, he asked an angel for the identity of the two olive trees. The angel’s answer was: “These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.”

Prior to this verse Zechariah had asked the angel again concerning these two witnesses; “Then the angel answered and spoke unto me, saying, this is the word of the Lord,” (Zechariah 4:6).

It is clear that the two witnesses represent the Word of God and the Word of God consists of two testaments, the old and the new. Alluding to the Bible, Christ declared; “The scriptures are they which testify of me,” (John 5:39). It is also very interesting to note that throughout the Bible, the Word of God is often portrayed with a dual image. The 10 commandments were written on two tables of stone. The Word of God is also portrayed as a sword with two edges.

Revelation 11:5 further confirms that the two witnesses represent the Word of God; “And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner.”
There is a penalty for misrepresenting Bible truths and teaching error.

“For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book,” (Revelation 22:18-19).

When the two witnesses had finished prophesying in sackcloth after the 1 260 years, the Bible says a beast came out of the bottomless pit to make war against them and kill them. This is a reference to the French revolution. France rejected God and they set up a religion that glorified man and reason.

During the reign of terror in France, the Bible was openly rejected and publicly burned.
For three and a half days the Bible would appear to be dead. The three and half days symbolized three and a half years for in Bible prophecy a day represents a year, (Ezekiel 4:6). For three and a half years the revolutionaries of France did all in their power to oppose and destroy the Bible.

In verses 11-12, the two witnesses are given new life and exalted in front of their enemies. After the French revolution protestant Europe looked back on its extremes in disgust and sought to elevate the Bible.
Today there are billions of Bibles in many languages making it the world’s most circulated book.
