IMAGINE 2022 WITH GENDER BASED VIOLENCE, RITUAL KILLINGS

Sir,

For how long will our ‘educated’ and ‘civilised’ society be defined by rape, gender-based violence and 18th Century beliefs for human sacrifices for power? Of all the big words one could use, the message needs not to be any clearer than this – Kahleni maSwati, kahleni bekunene! Kahleni ngekubulala live lenu, bomake nebantfwana benu; stop!

You are a product of your own thoughts, so in no way can an individual put as an excuse that the ‘African way of life’ has always been centered around ritual killings or putting our women in their place (not to mention the perverted inclinations such as rape or sexual harassment which in no way qualify to be in any African traditions’ context). There is just no excuse.

It is the God-forsaken belief that umutsi uyasebenta. A nationwide dialogue and an inculcanation on our young citizens in school will be mammoth steps in tackling this grotesque conundrum engulfing this peaceful country. People involved in these unspeakable acts should know it is the weight on their conscience after doing such deeds and not getting the results they are so desperate for that they will experience hell on earth, before the so many morally principled Swazis in the country and the law dips you further into that hell.

I challenge the Swazi nation (especially the youth) to have intellectual dialogues surrounding beliefs in ritual killings and gender-based violence ideologies to end all misconceptions. With our old citizens (with all due respect) it may just be too late to rewire their minds.
