EDUCATION: A MASSIVE PLANT
Sir,
Ever since humanity was created on earth we have had to go through different phases which led to humans establishing a seed which grew into a unique and big plant.
This has led to them having to be channeled to a certain direction; fortunately everyone is channeled to this massive plant called education. Education comes in two main forms, it may be formal or informal but it plays a major role the grooming and development of a person to end up being knowledgeable as well as recognisable in society.
In every country today, from a very tender age everyone is directed to either formal or informal education or both. Let’s take a closer look at formal education; it may either be acquired in a public or private school.
Our schools are like different seeds which may grow to be massive plants. I would also liken pupils to raw material which have the potential to come out as finished products. As such pupils need to be processed into different products; professionals in their pursued careers.
Just like a natural plant schools are categorised into different segments and each segment produces an unfinished product until the final segment. It is the same in plants with different categories; some are able to end up with tertiary certificates, some with Form V certificates and some drop out even before they complete the academic processes. Then the question is; should those who did not complete their targeted career goals be discarded? No!
Think of a plant with its wood which will one day be luxurious furniture, some of its by-products are very useful. We have the bark, wood logs, sawdust and etc. All these by-products are useful.
This draws a conclusion that even if you never went to tertiary you can still turn out to be an important member of society.
Life may not be about being a graduate; if you still have your sanity you should regard yourself as very lucky as you treasure your greatest asset which is your mind. You are more than capable of starting a business and be able to hire people more educated than you. Some may be gifted in singing, writing, playing soccer and athletics. This then draws me to a point that we are not all called for the same purpose.
Look at Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates. He is a dropout from Harvard but is now among the richest people in the world. This is because he did not limit his thoughts to the spheres of a classroom.
Bill Gates once said; “I failed some subjects in my exam but my friend passed them all. Now he is an engineer at Microsoft and I am the owner.”
