TREES CONCERN ALONG MANTSHOLO ROAD

On behalf of the many users of Mantsholo Road, I would like to thank and congratulate A G Thomas on the magnificent, fast and efficient job they and their staff have done rebuilding and resurfacing this road.

It is now like driving on a carpet of velvet. I imagine that when the paved pathways are completed, the frontages adjacent to these pathways will be levelled, tidied and grassed to give an overall pleasing appearance to the area. I have one major concern. Driving from the barely negotiable traffic circle at the town end of Mantsholo up pass Ramblas on the right hand side, we then pass many trees just inside the golf course boundary. Please take a look at these trees because many of them are standing or leaning at acute angles and I fear they may fall over on some unsuspecting motorist or passerby, especially if it is windy.

The root systems may have been disturbed during the road renovations and with trees in their dormant phase through the dry season; they will not have formed new roots to secure themselves into the ground. Recently, I phoned a certain Mr Mahlalela who is in charge of the Mbabane City Council Parks department, to discuss my misgivings and he assured me that they were aware of it and were considering felling many if not all the trees in that section of the road. May we know what has been decided and how soon felling will commence.
