KILLING EACH OTHER, NEW HOBBY

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

As I write this letter I feel like crying because of the increasing incidents of people killing one another. My heart is bleeding because this country is known to be peaceful but what is happening nowadays is shocking.

Many parents who have spent their time raising children with the hope that they would one day become something are crying because those hopes were dashed following the killing of those children.

Recently, one parent had to bear the pain of losing his young boy who was killed on his way from church. This parent, just like many others, raised the child with the hope that he would one day graduate and get a good job to support the family.

The fact that even school going pupils are now becoming murders should worry all of us out there. Are we playing our role as parents?  I am of the view that the behaviour of our children has a lot to do with how they are groomed. If they are not groomed the right way they will definitely behave in manner that is not right.

Other parents lose their children who are killed by their lovers. Men no longer have a better way of dealing with problems in their relationships and instead resort to killing their women. What has gone wrong? Why is it becoming easy to grab a knife and stab your lover all over the body many times? What happened to the old life where a man, after seeing that he was no longer happy in a relationship would just send the wife back to her parents?  Recently there was a story of about 30 pupils who had fallen pregnant in one school.

Obviously, there is a possibility that most of them will struggle to maintain their children once they are born and when that happens they will resort to getting rid of them.

Our government needs to look into this issue and check if the existing legal instruments used for killers are still good enough.
We need tough laws so that anyone who thinks of committing murder knows that they will not get away with it. I say this because it seems like people do not care about the 10 to 20 years that they will spend in jail after committing a murder crime. To all parents out there, let us go back to teaching our children the right kind of behaviour so that they grow up to be responsible citizens. If we do not do that then I am afraid that this country will have no future.
