SILENCE IN HEAVEN FOR HALF AN HOUR

 Sir,

“And when He had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour,” (Rev 8:1). In just one sentence, the seventh seal is presented to us. This seal is totally different to all the other seals. In all the other six seals there are some voices involved but not so with the seventh seal; there is total silence. What does it mean? Why is there silence in heaven?

Bible prophecy is like a puzzle; there are so many pieces that need to fit together in order for us to understand the meaning.
In chapter four John states; “And out of the throne proceeded lightning, and thundering and voices...and the four beasts rest not day and night saying holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty,” (Rev 4:5,8). These voices are continuous but when the seventh seal was opened these voices were silenced for about half an hour.

Heaven is not a place of silence, there is continual music and praise. As we noted in verse 8 of chapter 4, ‘they do not rest day or night, saying holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty’. But the seventh seal is pointing to a time of total silence, when all the music and praise will be at a standstill.

“When the son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory,” (Mat 25:31). This verse clearly shows us that when Jesus Christ returns to earth, heaven will be emptied of its inhabitants, except God the father. All the angels will accompany Christ to this world.

The seventh seal refers to the silence in heaven when Jesus comes for the second time with all His angels with him to gather together His elect from the four corners of the earth.

Heaven will be emptied of all its angels at that time. There will be no praise because no angel would be present except God the Father. Every child of God on this earth, from Adam and Eve up to the end of the world, has had his or her own guardian angel to watch over them and care for them in this life.

At the resurrection of saints at the second coming of Jesus, the first being to greet each child of God as they rise up from the grave will be their personal guardian angel.

The seventh seal is a symbolic prophecy therefore half an hour is also a symbolic time. A day in prophetic time stands for a year (Ezekiel 4:6). One hour is a 24th part of a prophetic year, and figuring 30 days to a month, it would be about two weeks. Half an hour would be half of two weeks therefore seven literal days.

Therefore there will be silence in heaven for a space of about one week.
Dear reader, we are living in the last days. The opening of the seventh seal will take place very soon. We need to ask ourselves if we are ready for the second coming of Jesus and to make sure that we are, we need to go to Jesus in prayer, asking him to forgive your sins and to cleanse us from all our unrighteousness. Ask him to strengthen us that we may follow His commandments and all that He reveals to us through the study of His word.
