THE CHALLENGES FACED BY TERTIARY STUDENTS

Sir,

I would like to express my heartfelt or deeply sincere gratitude towards teachers who work tirelessly hard and learners, particularly SGCSE learners, for giving out their utmost effort to get good results warranting university considerations. It is very delightful and important to notice that some people take education with this level of importance.

For graduates of SGCSE in any year, acknowledgements of commencement of social independence and mentally drilling journey just started may not be spared. A sincere gratitude extends to those motivated learners who displayed competitiveness and aim full protégé attitudes, which attribute to their successful university enrolment, locally and abroad. That is commendable.

Some homiletic but important reserved comments and words of advice, not meant to fray, but caution aspiring and current SGCSE graduates of challenges that loom ahead of their highly anticipated graduation.
It remains troubling to note that ramifications of graduation for most learners in Swaziland continue to be unpalatable, unwelcome, soporific and discouraging to learners.

For thousands of learners graduating annually, there are fewer opportunities of tertiary education and employment prospects in Swaziland.

Many graduates end up being useless vagabonds and dangerous wanderers who resort to crime and prejudices against the public. We as a nation are facilitating education of gangsters indirectly, by failure to enact or develop radical economic transformations that will directly increase employment and expand tertiary education institutions and opportunities.

Many students are absorbed by South Africa’s more than sixty universities and college institutions for their tertiary education.
Others go abroad. All those are good opportunities welcomed by many. It is worrisome though to notice counter effective, is still highly dependent on other nations for jobs and tertiary institutions of its citizens.

There are more 2022 goals not reachable relative to current achievements. This coupled with high levels of employment, low wages for civil servants, slowest technological advancement, autocratic leadership and many other factors make for unreachable First World status. More than anything, dwindled opportunities for SGCSE graduates.
