‘MOTHERS WHO KNOW’

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

There is eternal influence and power in motherhood. Nowadays we need mothers who know that children are being born into a world where they wrestle, not only against flesh and blood but also against principalities and against the rulers of darkness of this world (Ephesians 6-12). However, mothers need not fear.

When mothers know who they are and who God is and have made covenants with Him, their children will be protected by God. Mothers who know are nurturers and to nurture means to cultivate, care for and make something grow.
Therefore, mothers who know create a climate for spiritual and temporary growth in their homes. Nurturing requires organisation, patience, love and hard work.

Mothers who know are leaders in equal partnership with their husbands because they lead a great and eternal organisation. These mothers plan for the future of their organisations, they plan for temple marriages and education.
Mothers who know mould their children into future leaders and are the primary examples of what leaders should be like.

They do not abandon their plans by succumbing to social pressure and worldly models of parenting. They are selective about their own activities and involvements to conserve their limited strength in order to maximise where it matters most.
Mothers who know do less and permit less of what will not bear good eternal fruits.

They permit less media in their homes, less distractions, less activity that draws their children away from their homes.
They are willing to live on less and consume less of the world’s goods in order to spend more time with their children; more time eating, reading, working, talking, laughing and singing together.

Their goals are to prepare future fathers and mothers who will be builders of the Lord’s kingdom.
Mothers who know stand strong and are immovable. They are ready to prepare a righteous generation of sons and daughters.
These are women who know and love the Lord, and bear testimony of Him. Latter-Day Saint women are strong and immovable; they do not give up during difficult and discouraging times.

Latter-Day Saint women should be the very best in the world at upholding, nurturing and protecting families. I have confidence that the women in our church (Mormons) will do this and will come to be known as women who know.
