WHEAT AMONG THE TARES

Sir,

In Mat 13:24-30, Jesus tells the parable of the wheat and the tares. A farmer sowed good seed, but while the farmer and his servants slept an enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat.

When his servants realised what had happened they asked the farmer if they should begin removing the tares but the master forbade them.

His counsel was; “Let them grow together until the harvest, then I will send the reapers to gather the tares first and bind them to be burned. Then the wheat will be gathered and placed in barns.”

In verses 36-42, Jesus gives us the identities of those involved in this parable. Jesus is the farmer, the wheat represents those who truly believe in the gospel. The tares are those who have a form of godliness but they are not genuine Christians and the one who sowed tares is the devil. The tares look like, act like and sound like true Christians, but they belong to another camp.

We are living during the time of the great controversy between Christ and satan. There are two family lines on this earth. Some have been born once, and others twice. While the Kingdom of God is advancing, the devil is trying to attack the kingdom by infiltration and by planting tares in the church.

Both the wheat and the tares are growing in the church today. As the wheat grows, so do the tares grow alongside them. Not only do the tares grow alongside the wheat, they also look just like the wheat.

The tares act like wheat and they look like wheat, but this is where the similarities end. One thing the tares cannot produce is fruit. If you were to open the head of a wheat plant, you would find it filled with wheat kernels. If you opened the head of the tare, you would find it filled with tiny black seeds.

This is the case with tares in the church. They give all the external appearances of being the real deal. They can do everything the wheat does.
Today satan is in the business of sowing tares among the Lord’s wheat. He is trying to devastate the entire crop by placing the artificial among the genuine. Satan is in the business of undoing all that the Lord is doing! He knows if he can fill the church with tares, he can disrupt the harmony and the blessedness of the church. He knows that enough tares in the church will give the church a bad name.

Because the tares can only imitate the true believers for so long, then their true nature, like that of the tares will come out!
The implications here are very clear! When this life has run its course, there are only two possible destinations for us. Every person who lives all his life as a tare will be eternally separated from God. The question is, which will it be for you? It all depends on whether you are a tare or you are wheat. We need to examine ourselves, if our faith is anywhere else but in the Lord Jesus Christ, then we are tares.
