LITMUS TEST FOR YOU MR SPEAKER’
‘Sir,
Even before the start of Parliament business, acts of corruption and corrupt individuals have reared their ugly heads in the fore. In as much as we know that corruption is not an issue in our country, but we as scribes shall never stop writing, talking and condemning it in the strongest terms.
Evident to the fact that corruption is not an issue, Thanda Mngwengwe’s position was just filled. I refer to the broad daylight issue of bribery for Senate seats, it seems our Speaker is taking this issue with kid’s gloves and is not taking this issue with the seriousness it deserves. How can he just look at the issue of exchange of monies and claim that it was done outside Parliament?
condoning corruption
Here it’s not about the money Mr. Speaker it’s about the act of corruption that happened between a Legislature and an aspiring senator. This is a very serious case and your response is just too casual and this is very worrying to the nation and the authorities. Please go back and work on this issue of the exchange of monies with all the urgency it deserves, otherwise we shall deem you to be condoning corruption. Are you content with what happened?
Are you encouraging that people must buy seats for Parliament and if they don’t win those seats they must refund each other and deal closed? No ways corrupt individuals must face the wrath of the law.
Not unless you want to tell the nation that you want to work with the corrupt individuals. I doubt that you want to work with such people especially because being the honest man that you are, so you must be seen instilling discipline so that that would be offenders be deterred from such nefarious acts of corruption. Be made aware that the whole world is watching you.
Just to put you in the picture, you will notice how His Majesty has really excluded corrupt individuals in Senate because he is tired of corruption which by extension has tarnished his name. Now the onus is upon you to prove that you are worthy to be trusted. In fact Their Majesties are watching as to how you will handle these corrupt individuals, so if you sit back and relax and continue as if all is ok, then I am worried and also Their Majesties will be worried about you and your integrity. Your integrity is at stake here.
corrupt individuals
If you do not do anything about this issue, it would be insinuating that their Majesties are going to be working with a bunch of criminals. Now if you act as if all is well Mr. Speaker, then I beg to differ with you Sir.
Do not forget that the act of condoning corruption makes you equally guilty of same. So to convince the people and Their Majesties that you do not want corrupt individuals next to you, heads must roll. This is a very respectable house that you are heading and therefore give it all the respect it deserves. If you don’t do anything now, chances are that you will never do anything in future to these criminals. So it’s now or never.
Lastly please restore the confidence of the nation. Name all the people who approached you not to enter the Speaker’s position. We need to know them and need to know who sent them. We want a clean Parliament not this rubber stamp we had in the previous term. We are tired of corrupt individuals. So come out clean Mkholo on this one and name the culprits otherwise we shall doubt your integrity if you decide to hide them. No hard feelings Sir. We want to start on a very clean page.
