WE CAN DO IT

Sir,

In response to a request for ideas to balance the country economically, five mighty factors should be considered: education, job creation and opportunities, salaries and taxis, business ownerships and lastly, sharpness of mind.

This country is very small and managing it could be easy.  We appreciate that our children are offered free education at primary level. We are also thankful that government, besides providing free education in primary schools, also pays for tertiary fees.

However, my concern is that these blue and gold opportunities are not worthwhile for all pupils to have a better future, which in turn will not help country’s economy. High competition hinders pupils, mostly from rural schools, to enroll at universities or colleges even if they are qualified. A solution would be to increase tertiary institutions to balance this weakness.

I also suggest that government must provide jobs relevant to all the courses offered in tertiary institutions. Currently it seems like the teaching and nursing professions have become people’s favourite careers more than others.

This should not be the case, people do not want to risk having no job after training. Sadly it impacts negatively on the output. Some teachers and nurses who do not love their jobs often end up abusing people. It also hurts to see a graduate staying at home without finding any job. These people may become advanced criminals as they would be aided by their technological background. This is obviously dragging back the country’s progress.

Opportunities

Providing reasonable job opportunities is ideal for three reasons; to prevent crime, to increase the country’s revenue, as well as for the happiness of everyone. After having solved this issue, then salaries should be properly negotiated.

May government hear workers” complaints, they have rights to complain. It is sad to see civil servants not being able to buy cars or build their own homes for years after they started working. All this shows the country’s economic imbalance, which must be improved. Employees have to pay rent, buy food, have transport money, pay for their children’s school fees and so forth, and even some are breadwinners who should also take care of their parental families. And as such, salaries should be increased and taxes reduced. These days taxes are very high such that someone made an example of a cow being an employee, and taxes the milking. He said little salaries are poor grazing lands and huge taxing is collecting the milk to fill very large vessels. There is something wrong with that because cows must be fed well or they will die if not taken care of.

And if it were to be a fair thing, the Tinkhundla system could be improved by electing educated individuals to be MPs, and person could occupy the indvuna and bucopho positions. Another wealth that could be of great profit is in the mines that are closed. I agree that the extraction of minerals is expensive but we need to spend money to gain more money. And, I have also recognized that best businesses are taken by foreignersn and I fear that most of the revenue they make goes to their countries and what is our benefit? Big things in this country should be held by emaSwati or shared among them rather than being owned by foreigners as the revenue goes to their home countries. We have the resources, we can do it.
