SLIMMING VERSUS FASTING
Sir,
Thank you for allowing me space in your newspaper to say my views on bogus Christians. It has been brought to my attention that numerous people, especially women, confuse fasting with slimming. I have heard quite a number of ladies going on about how fasting helps them to slim. Fasting is basically not eating anything for a period of time for religious purposes while slimming, on the other hand, is the process of not eating with the intention of losing body weight. Most women would absolutely kill for a slender body but, is achieving this goal through mocking God really worth it?
If people have flaws of not being able to accept themselves for who they are, then that is their own baby to nurse! Involving God’s commandments in their agendas is truly uncalled for. In fact, bogus Christians is the perfect phrase for people who practise such an act. Slimming in the name of fasting is not only a disgrace, but it is also an insult to God. It takes a village to do everything in life, true that, perhaps this nasty habit of slimming in the name of fasting gives people the impression that the Lord will intervene in their weight issues, making their agendas much easier, but the fact remains that these people are not only ungodly but they are also the worst sinners.
It is without a doubt that while having the impression that fasting helps them slim, people end up giving food a halt for the wrong purpose. People forget about praying for their earthly needs and instead, concentrate on obtaining a body which is as thin as a needle. People need to be satisfied with who they are. If they fail to do that, they should not involve God in their weaknesses! Nothing beats not being ashamed of yourself and being proud of who you are, hence not worrying about how others see you.
Fasting is meant to connect Christians with God but apparently, the idea of fasting is creating sin for many. The same body structures that people were gifted with by God are now being used as a betrayal to the giver. This is wrong! About 18 per cent of the nation’s population is confusing fasting with slimming, so I therefore urge women not to raise the statistics.
If someone is slimming in the name of fasting, look at the mirror and ask yourself ‘am I really a Christian’?
