ABRUPT CLOSURE OF SANU

Sir,

There are three kinds of people; those who make things happen, those who watch things happening and those who wonder what happened. It is heartbreaking for those who wonder what happened since they don’t even know what exactly took place. Instead, they experience the results of what has happened. Can we watch the future of tomorrow’s leaders being destroyed like a man eating eggs that are meant to hatch.

Can the current leaders lead the country until Jesus returns? If no, who then will be in charge when they pass on if tomorrow’s leaders are failing to access proper education?
Last week I met two SANU students, at different intervals, in Manzini. I spent almost an hour with each undergraduate. I listened quietly as they narrated their sad stories about an abrupt closure of their institution.  The other one was already on the field for practice (internship) before the more than four weeks unexpected break found him. He had no choice but to leave his duties at one of the hospitals in the country.

The other one, who is a second year student, cried foul about the amount of rent accrued that he was expected to settle. He said life was as hard as a rock to him now since he did not get any financial support from home. He said he only relied on the money received as an allowance. So there is no doubt, with the current situation, that life seems impossible for him. It is almost three months since they have re-opened for the last half of their academic year and they are yet to receive their allowances, said the student.

The academic calendar for these students has already been disturbed because of their as-long as-a-leave break. This has cost them as when they come back, they will experience academic pressure which will eventually make them perform below what they are capable of. This will affect their end results, the qualifications they intend to acquire. One writer once said hope does not kill so we will be hoping until  the last day of our breath that our leaders will address this issue for better leaders of tomorrow.
