TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE
Sir,
Our government needs to do introspection and see if its continued delay in addressing and dealing with emergencies is conducive with the drive to make Eswatini a First World country come 2022. Government has to realise that time waits for no one.
Government clearly suffers from what I may term ‘analysis paralysis syndrome’. People who suffer from this syndrome never take decisions timeously on the pretext that they are still analysing the situation.
Analysing
The analysis paralysis syndrome will never move this country forward, opportunities will pass us by while government is analysing a given situation, and this is what most African countries are notorious for.
This culture is not going to move us to First World status; instead, it will take us backwards.
It is a fact that more and more countries are competing for meagre resources and countries that will act swiftly and decisively stand a better chance of appealing to the owners of capital.
The countries that are slow in reacting to issues and are slow in making decisions will only get the crumbs.
Warned
Expert after expert warned us over the years that our continued overreliance on SACU receipts to finance government expenditure is not sustainable, indications are that the chickens have come home to roost.
The situation is very gloomy. But why did we allow ourselves to be in this situation?
Government clearly did not spend wisely and the consequences of the lack of responsibility on its part is now dire for the entire population.
Resources
Our economic situation is not caused by lack of resources but rather by lack of leadership, sound leaders listen to advice and act accordingly.
If we continue to spend money on projects that will not add value to the lives of our people, we will surely drive this country into insolvency.
Greeks realised that you can defy all logical advice but at the end you will pay a heavy price for that.
Hoping and wishing that issues will miraculously disappear will not help us; this is the time when leadership has to be displayed.
