ALL GOOD LEADERS RISE UP!
Sir,
Every community or country needs a good leader to maintain order and peace. While we are still trying to figure out what makes a good leader, let us remember the words of John Maxwell.
The famous author, speaker and pastor once said, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way”.
Good leaders inspire others. Anyone can be a leader, but not everyone is good at it. I believe a good leader must be a good person who watches what they say to others and most importantly, how they say it.
Weaknesses
Leaders need to be aware of their weaknesses and use their strengths to empower themselves and others. That way, they will be able to improve the institutions they lead and become better people.
Most importantly, a leader needs to learn to ask whenever they do not understand. This is because no one in this world is perfect. Even when you are a leader, you yourself need to be led. That is what makes a good leader.
Proof
The fact that you have a team that you work with is proof that you need to help it doo right but it must start with you. You yourself must do things right and then such an attitude will filter down to the people you are leading.
You have to listen to the voices of others and consider their opinions because in most instances they matter and make sense.
Even if the people you work with disagree with you, there is no need to then judge them. Instead consider what they say. Become the kind of leader who has an ear to listen and respect each and every opinion, suggestion or recommendation. Teach the people you lead to always make their voices heard. Avoid a situation where they always expect you to make decisions.
Leadership is lifting the spirits of everyone in an organisation. In that way you will be able to improve everyone’s performance because they will know that they are important and you value their contributions.
When you show people that you value their contributions, it will lead to a high standard of performance and make them exceed their expectations.
In schools, teachers have a duty to acknowledge in order to become good leaders, theirs is not just to teach the curriculum or lessons, but also to learn from those pupils.
Let us all aspire to be good leaders in our various walks of life.
