SUICIDE NOT THE ANSWER!

Sir,

There is a saying that if a plan does not work for you, change it and explore other opportunities. I am dismayed and saddened by the increase in the number of suicides especially among young people. Why kill yourself when there is so much in store for you?
I shudder to think of the pain felt by the many parents out there who have had to bury their children who have died due to suicide. It is worse when there is no explanation for the suicide.
Whenever a person commits suicide, there are many stories and conclusions. Others you hear that it is because they were heartbroken, or dumped by their lovers. I then wonder if the last resort was ending their lives.

Broken

If the broken heart is the reason, how does dying for someone who does not love you or has stopped caring help the situation? In the end, once you commit the suicide, it hurts the other people who loved you and were prepared to save you for whatever challenges that you were going through.
If failing at school is the reason, why not try rewriting or sit for supplementary examinations instead of ending your life? If unemployment is the reason, why not consider the fact that no monetary value can replace your life?

Communication

What happened to open communication and the bond we have with our parents, siblings and friends?
During those days when there was no social media, the only way we knew of dealing with challenges was talking to those close to us like our parents and siblings. Why are we not doing that now?
To all human beings out there, especially the youth, suicide is the cowardly way out, just don’t even think about it. All you need to do is speak out and seek help. Despite that the world has become hostile, there are still people who have the energy and determination to listen to others.

Insulting

The act of committing suicide is more like you are insulting God for bringing you to this earth. It is like you are disrespecting your parents for raising you. That is not how life is supposed to be. Our parents should enjoy the benefits of raising their children. These children should tomorrow provide for these parents.

Right now thousands of pupils are sitting for their examinations and not all of them will make it. My word of encouragement to them is that even if they fail, they should not despair but should try again. Life is all about failing, making mistakes and then learning from them in order to be a better person tomorrow. Even the most successful people in the world did fail at some point.
