CORRUPTION IS INSIDIOUS

Sir,

History has a tendency of repeating itself. Recently, as I reflected on life in general, I was reminded of a biblical proverb that provides; if a person wants to see how he looks, he must go to a mirror.

However, if he wants to see what his character is like, he needs to look at the friends around him. This is the biblical rendition of people with similar characters flocking together. A simpler version of this is birds of a feather flock together.

We need the Anti-Corruption Commission to be allowed to function to its fullest capacity, otherwise we will not win the war against corruption.

Seeing

I mean what we are seeing in Parliament is a result of people knowing that the ACC is toothless, inja engenamazinyo. The modus operandi of this crowd is defeating the ends of justice which has to do with a lot of things including the misappropriation of funds. Therefore, we are not surprised that there are people who are hell-bent on reopening the CTA trading account, their cash cow.

There clearly exists a syndicate that has, and still is running the justice system, and we need the ACC to dig deep, making sure that people known to have been connected or associated with certain people are investigated. We need to see people being arrested in droves. I mean there are cases that have failed to see the light of day in years, with unexplained reasons for the inordinate delays.

Exploiting

Is this not a product of a compromised justice system exploiting the strategy of defeating the ends of justice? If not, can somebody out there tells us why the delay in prosecuting those cases.

The prosecution capacity of this country has been compromised for far too long and it is not funny anymore. Who can blame us for coming to the conclusion that scams are now institutionalised and that corruption is indeed insidious. I mean really, who is clean in all that is happening in the political sphere? It seems to me it is only a matter of time for more revelations to come to light, and have more people, even seemingly unlikely candidates, being implicated.

Prosecution

And the only cure for the ‘runaway’ corruption is prosecution, something that I believe has been lacking. And tied to this should be the forfeiture of assets acquired using proceeds of crime. I cannot see how combating this crime will succeed without culprits losing their ill-gotten wealth.
