‘PUPIL SLAPS TEACHER OVER LAPTOP’

 Sir,

I’d like to comment on the story where it was alleged that a pupil slapped a teacher in the presence of the school’s secretary.

The story stated that the bone of contention was a laptop, yet that was not true as it was a CPU, which forms part of a desktop.

The pupil approached the teacher with the intent of asking what was wrong with his computer since it couldn’t boot.

The teacher voluntarily indicated that the pupil should bring it to school for further inspection so that he could fix it if necessary. There was no mention of payment since the teacher volunteered to fix it as he dealt with computers.

The pupil brought the CPU to school even before the COVID-19 forced holidays.

Inspection

Upon inspection of the electronic device by the teacher, he boldly said relax mfana wami, ngitayilungisa. After some time the pupil had to fetch it from the teacher and the teacher wasn’t pleased.

This clearly showed that the teacher had some shady business going on since he couldn’t even state where the CPU was and if it was fixed or not.

However, the teacher told the pupil to come back in two days. And before the two days were over, the teacher called the pupil’s mother and demanded an undisclosed amount of money.

Worry

When the two days were over, the pupil again went to the teacher to get the CPU but the teacher said he would take it to the pupil’s home, so he need not worry about it.

But the teacher did not show up with the CPU as promised but he showed up with a small part of the CPU much to the pupil’s family members’ surprise.

As a result the pupil’s mother no longer cared if the CPU was fixed or not but wanted the teacher to return it as he had received it.

So on the day he returned the CPU he came with a group of friends driving in a black car to demand money. One of them had a knife.

Since the mother felt threatened, she allegedly told the teacher that they should wait for her brothers to discuss a way forward.

Unrepaired

One of the teacher’s cronies said ‘ngeke sihambele lite, faka lokuncane. The teacher then left with his crew and said ‘siyabuya, lena isengakapheli, and they drove off to a watering hole at Buhleni leaving behind the unrepaired device which they demanded money for. But they never came back as they disclosed earlier.

It was brought to my attention that the teacher developed an attitude towards the pupil as he would verbally harass the pupil whenever he met him along corridors, where it is alleged that he’d remind him about the debt. This disturbed the pupil as the teacher was always on his case.

On the day of the scuffle, the pupil went to the secretary’s office seeking assistance but when there the teacher boldly asked the pupil when he would pay him the money and the pupil ignored him. However, the teacher manhandled the pupil when he tried to vacate the office.

The teacher said ‘yewena mfana awuva yini kutsi ngikhuluma nawe’ and the secretary laughed and seconded the teacher.

Ganged

Upon seeing that they had ganged up on him, the pupil asked the teacher not to hold him like he did but the teacher said ‘utawentani mfana wami’.

And that is when the boy slapped the teacher. It was only then that the secretary told the teacher that he shouldn’t do what he was doing.

In the statement released by the head teacher, the secretary is said to have advised the teacher to forward the matter to the head teacher.

It was brought to my attention that the secretary did so to protect the teacher as they were buddies who shared an office.
