THEY DON’T BRING US SUNSHINE
Sir,
Eswatini is like a ship that has been steered for so long by captains who either are grossly inept at steering or are selfishly setting it on a course that is benefiting only them and is headed for chaos. This is unhealthy and destructive and all government is doing is to trigger new battles that leave room for a destructive atmosphere. Between the patience of emaSwati and the aggressiveness of government, there is a hungry chasm spoiling to swallow the whole nation. This government is disorganised; it lacks clear ideas and the beret of decent leadership. The new reality requires a re-scrambling of things. EmaSwati need to be rescued from the tyrannising hands of this government.
Examine
It is very important to examine and re-examine the origin and the extent of the fracture that Eswatini is facing. It is very important that government finds a balance and begins the process of mending the fracture between it and citizens of this country, which may take many years to heal. Eswatini is a land that devours its people. The recent political ping-pong taking place shows you that this government is pathetic and it is causing mayhem for this country. A government where everybody and everything becomes available for sale and waiting for the highest bidder cannot be trusted. Government’s sectionalism is immoral, unethical, divisive and illegal as it violates the spirit and intent behind the principles of justice and fairness. We have seen the taxpayers’ money building expensive toilets, we have seen lump sums of money used for vanity projects which are of no use to the nation. Why this tyrannical onslaught on the people? Why this cruelty? Most people of this country are among the poorest on earth, yet this government is still looking at means of taxing them more.
We are slowly witnessing the birth of a new order. In the monochrome vision of government’s emotionalism, many are discounted. And because the vision is monochrome, ultimately everyone who are not its ideological orientation will suffer. New alliances based on mutual respect must be actively sought and old agreements with emotionalists revisited. It’s is also no doubt that Eswatini is one of the most religious countries in the world. Ordinarily such a global recognition goes with certain responsibilities because there cannot be honoured without responsibilities. But what do we have in this country really? When any nation is at cross roads, the people look up to religious leaders for direction. Instead of speaking the truth, religious leaders have suddenly become appendages of the ruling class using their vantage positions to enrich themselves at the expense of the poor members of their congregation, who often see them as next to God.
